Accommodation for schools

‘”The beds were very comfy and warm. Also the food was very, very yummy…. Thank you for a lovely time at Springhead. I would definitely recommend it’
(primary School pupil)

Bedrooms and dormitories

The centre can accommodate groups of up to 39 adults or children in a range of rooms.  Should groups require any additional beds, separate bedrooms are sometimes available for up to 10 additional people in our Historic house accommodation which can be hired separately (price by negotiation).

Most of the bedrooms are basic dormitory style with bunk beds, but there are also some twin and single rooms.  All rooms are in good decorative order, with clean and modernised toilets and washing facilities. All bedding is provided. The following bedrooms and dormitories are available for schools and large groups:

Springhead House cottage (10 people)

There are two dormitory-style rooms on the ground floor of Springhead House:

Cottage room 1, with 3 bunk beds
Cottage room 2, with 2 bunk beds

It should be noted that it is not possible to access the rest of Springhead House from these two rooms.

Mill building (2 people)

An 18th century mill, this listed building is the hub of Springhead’s activities. The dining room and kitchen are downstairs, and in addition to the recreation rooms upstairs there is one bedroom:

Twin en suite bedroom with disabled access to the garden and a wet room.

The Stables (15 people)

Just on the other side of the courtyard from the Mill building, these former stables now house dormitory rooms:

Stable 1 – 1 single bed
Stable 2 – 2 bunk beds
Stable 3 – 5 bunk beds

The Fruit Store (12 people)

Adjoining the stables, the former fruit store now comprises two further rooms:

Fruit store 1 – 2 single beds
Fruit store 2 – 5 bunk beds

Catering

Accommodation can be full board, half board or can be hired on a self-catered basis.
Self-catering: For those groups wishing to do their own catering, our main kitchen is fully equipped for groups of up to 50 people. There is a large 5 plate electric fan oven/cooker, boiling water on tap, two domestic dishwashers, microwave and a large commercial refrigerator. Space is also available in our deep freezers. We provide cutlery, white crockery, serving dishes, saucepans and kitchen utensils. All water in the kitchen is provided from our own springs. We can provide the names of local catering companies. The pub in Fontmell Magna serves food and is a short walk away.

Catered: For groups wanting to take advantage of our catered option, Springhead’s food is freshly cooked and locally sourced where possible. Organic and vegetarian options are available, and other dietary needs can usually be met if prior notice is given.

Dining room

The dining room is located next to the kitchen on the ground floor of the main mill building, and overlooks the delightful courtyard where in summer guests can enjoy eating al fresco.

Recreation rooms

Two recreation rooms are located on the first floor of the main mill building and overlook the picturesque lake and gardens. The larger room, the Mill Room, can seat up to 60 people theatre style and is ideal for workshops and presentations.  The Lounge Room offers comfortable wicker chairs; a piano; a fireplace with a log burner and French doors leading onto the gardens.

Disabled access

A pathway suitable for wheelchairs leads from Springhead’s car park to the main buildings. Pathways from the courtyard to the kitchen gardens and car park are also being upgraded to provide disabled access. Fully accessible toilet facilities are provided on the ground floor and the en-suite bedroom on the first floor has disabled access and facilities.

Car Parking

There is a car park at the rear of the grounds, which can be approached via a lane off Mill Street. Cars must not be left in the courtyard. Where groups are arriving by coach it should be noted that the driver is required to drop his/her passengers in the car park and not at the lower pedestrian entrance. No liability is accepted for loss or damage of vehicles or contents.

Gardens

Schools booking the centre have exclusive use of the extensive lakeside gardens and orchard. Picnic tables, barbeque and camp fire areas are available.
