Exhibitions and art projects

Springhead has regularly staged arts projects and held exhibitions to promote local artists’ work.

Events in recent years have included an exhibition of paintings, prints and photographs inspired by the ash tree, an outdoor photographic installation in collaboration with local women’s refuges and a children’s art workshop which investigated the myths and legends surrounding some of the ancient stones in the area.

Pictured are exhibits of paintings by Gary Cook, who is the Ecologist magazine’s artist in residence and who champions the cause of nature through his work. As well as painting iconic and threatened animals like whales and polar bears. he is inspired by the landscape and wildlife of Dorset where he lives. An exhibition at Springhead held in the Autumn of 2017 included paintings of local ash trees threatened by Ash dieback disease,  which he wanted to record before our landscape is potentially changed forever with the loss of these trees.
