To Win the Day is a powerful folk-drama about the women left behind when the Tolpuddle men were convicted and transported in 1834. We’re pleased to welcome back the Time and Tide Theatre group to tell their story.
No one – until now – has considered what the treatment of the Tolpuddle Martyrs by the authorities meant for their families. This folk-drama is a first glimpse of the lives of the wives and families who were left behind, devastated and penniless, when their men were transported for ‘swearing an illegal oath’. The tale of how their hitherto quiet rural existence became part of a national, political situation is told by the Dorset-based collective, the Time and Tide Theatre group, through traditional tunes and folk song, and usiing words from reports and letters of the time.
Tickets are £10 for adults, and £8 for Friends of Springhead and under 18s.
