Oxford-based Polly sings a mixture of the best 1930s and 40s sultry jazz from singers including Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee, uplifting 60s soul from Aretha Franklin and Etta James, and blues from Nina Simone and Bessie Smith.
‘Ever since I was a teenager I have been captivated by the emotion and depth of the great blues and jazz singers and the euphoria of soul and gospel’ says Polly. ‘Aretha is my heroine and I try to recreate those songs with the same dynamism and excitement for the audience that I feel when I listen to them. I love the smooth jazz tones of Ella Fitzgerald and the sophisticated lyrics of the likes of Cole Porter, the intense atmosphere of Nina Simone and the sheer joy of Etta and Aretha’s soul!’.
Tickets are available from Ticketsource, and directly from Springhead, at a cost of £10 for adults, £8 for under 18s and Friends of Springhead, and £26 for a family (to include a hot drink).
Polly transports the audience to the smoky, late night Jazz club with her rich, chocolaty voice and relaxed performance. She hits every note with ease and makes it all seem effortless, which is a mark of a great talent.
