Activities & Attractions
The staff at Springhead, all of whom have enhanced disclosure certificates, will be pleased to assist and guide activities, however, they are not qualified teachers/instructors and the children must be under the care of the school at all times.
The following activities can be enjoyed throughout the year:
- Country walks
- Wildlife Studies
- Local history and village studies
- Field studies
- PSHE and Citizenship
- Team building and problem solving.
The following activities can be organised by Springhead staff led/instructed by the teachers:
- Pond dipping
- Night animal walks
- Small mammal studies
- Shelter-building
- Outdoor games
- Bird watching from a hide
- Camp fire with sing-a-long.
The following activities that can be arranged for an additional charge and if reasonable notice is given:
- Visual art workshops run by a professional artist
- Creative writing workshops run by a professional tutor
(All Springhead’s workshop leaders have experience of working with young people and possess a current enhanced disclosure certificate)
Visit to a local dairy farm (£3 per person). Curriculum based, the visit will give children the opportunity to learn about Britain’s farming and food.
Located approximately 4 miles from the ancient hilltop town of Shaftesbury, on the borders of both Wiltshire and Somerset, Springhead is also within easy travelling distance of many interesting places to visit such as Shaftesbury Abbey; The Ancient Technology Centre at Cranborne; Stonehenge; Corfe Castle and Lulworth Cove; Stourhead Estate and the magnificent Dorset Jurassic coastline.
It’s entirely your choice, whether you wish to pack your residential trip with lots of activities or take time out to study quietly in the serene atmosphere of the place. Staff at Springhead will be happy to make some suggestions to design a bespoke experience to meet your group’s individual needs.
