A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Summer 2011

Due to unforeseen circumstances this magical performance of Shakespeare’s play in Springhead’s new outdoor theatre has been delayed until summer 2011.  Further details to be announced in the coming months ....

Garden Volunteers

The garden continues to be run by Rosalind Richards generously supported by Peter and Judy Westgate who lend a huge amount of their time and skill. Professional help is provided one day a week by Sarah King and by Martin Park, who mows beautifully. Otherwise the entire garden is maintained by dedicated volunteers who gather on a Wednesday, cheerfully taking on whatever jobs need to be done. The core group share a spirit of camaraderie and lively conversation over lunch. Without them the garden simply could not function.

Occasional help is also provided for project work by BTCV, who have built steps above the springs and installed new gates and will revet banks along the lake next year.

The Springhead Vegetable Gardeners

The Lower Garden, originally the Kitchen Garden and subsequently a Herb Garden run Neal’s Yard Herbal Remedies is now being excellently revived by The Springhead Vegetable Gardeners, a troop of volunteers lead by Nigel Goulding from the Community Resource Team , part of the NHS. Nigel shows the way for eight members who are also doing an NVQ in Horticulture at Kingston Maurwood. They will provide the Springhead Trust with organically grown produce.

Garden Openings

The garden is open either for the Springhead Trust or the NGS (National Garden Scheme) five times a year. Despite being weather dependant they are very successful days. Volunteers help with parking, on the gate and in the kitchen where good food offered. Visits by private parties, garden clubs and individuals can be arranged through the Trust and by contacting Rosalind on 01747 811206. Events in the garden are put on by Friends of the Trust.
